We’re Striding Against Breast Cancer

October 2, 2010

On October 17, a team of my friends and family will be walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Independence Grove, Libertyville.  I’ve always wanted to take part in a walk for Breast Cancer research and when I found out this one was right around the corner from me, I was determined to participate.  I was planning to walk even before my diagnosis and now it means more to me than ever before.

Our team is collecting money and would truly appreciate a small donation to support our efforts.  We’ve named ourselves The Girls and will be walking with our husbands and children who are appropriately named The Guys and The Kids!

If you’d like to donate, it’s as easy as 1- 2- 3…

1. You can donate on-line at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer website:

Making Strides Event Home

You should be at the Event Home page.

Click on the Donate button
Click on the Donate to a Team button
Choose Search for a Team
Enter The Girls and click the FIND button

Our team should come up with my name as team leader (Catherine Liginski).  Just follow the directions from there.

2. You can write a check made payable to “The American Cancer Society” and send it to me at:

Cathy Liginski
17346 Bluff Drive
Grayslake, IL 60030

(The American Cancer Society will send a receipt to you for tax purposes.)

3. You can purchase Cookie Lee jewelry for yourself and/or for gifts.

Thanks to the generosity of my sales consultant Fern Flaim, 50% of the profits of every jewelry purchase will be donated to The Girls team.  I’ve purchased many pieces of Cookie Lee jewelry throughout the years and I love it.  It’s adorable and affordable jewelry with over 100 pieces priced under $25.

Take a look:

If you order on-line, you’ll see a box that reads Name of Host or Event.  Be sure to put either Cathy Liginski or The Girls Making Strides Walk.

I’ll have brochures and paper order forms also. If you’d rather order this way or if you’d like a catalog to show friends, please let me know.

And I’m hosting a Wine, Dessert, and Jewelry gathering at my house on Wednesday, October 13.  Fern will be there with a wide array of jewelry that you can purchase and take home that evening.  The jewelry will be there to look at and try on but there will be no presentation–just sweets, wine, coffee, and jewelry.  A perfect combination!

I’ll be sending and posting detailed information about this gathering shortly.

So there it is. The Girls, along with The Guys and The Kids are striding against Breast Cancer.  If you’d like to join us, please do.  We’d love for you to walk with us or cheer us on.

Information about the walk:

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise funds and awareness to fight breast cancer. More than 145 Making Strides walks nationwide each year celebrate people who have battled breast cancer, educate people about ways to reduce their risk, and empower communities to join the fight. The noncompetitive walks range in distance from 3 to 5 miles. The money raised through the Making Strides walks helps the American Cancer Society to create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.

Date: Sunday, October 17, 2010
Location: Independence Grove, Libertyville
Time: 8:30am – Opening Ceremonies; 9am – Walk Begins

This walk is 5 miles. The route is 2 laps but you can choose to do 1 lap.  And if you decide you can’t do the whole thing, they’ll have a golf cart to pick people up!  The walk wraps up at about 11:30.

There is also a Strides Boutique where items are sold with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
