Sundance…Day Two!

Tuesday. January 25.

We woke up to beautiful snowy Utah morning. First on the agenda was breakfast. Between the four of us, we had sourdough french toast, eggs, sausage, pancakes, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, and hot chocolate with whipped cream that made Bobby’s eyeballs just about pop out of his head. Breakfast was GOOD.

With our stomaches filled to capacity, we decided to take advantage of our credential passes and attend a panel discussion at the Filmmaker’s Lodge with Kevin Clash, the creator and voice of Elmo. A documentary of his life, Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey premiered earlier to rave reviews.

The discussion took place in a small room that reminded me of a cozy little coffee shop, and the first thing I eyed was a counter with coffee and doughnuts. As Bob, Bobby, and Peggy were finding seats, I made a bee-line for the doughnuts. If you recall, I had just finished a breakfast of french toast drenched in syrup and a pancake off of my mother-in-law’s plate, but I was not about to pass up one of these doughnuts. They were the most scrumptious-looking doughnuts I had ever seen and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of them.

Elmo who? All I care about is shoving this doughnut in my mouth…

Okay, doughnut eaten, on with the show. Listening to Kevin talk about his life was fascinating and it made me wish we had paid more attention to Elmo during Bobby’s early years. We were Barney fans (sorry Diane!) and other than a brief obsession with an Elmo/meatball episode, Bobby was pretty loyal to Barney. We kept our mouths shut about that part of our lives and thank goodness we did because after the discussion was over, Bobby got an up-close-and-personal visit from Elmo and Kevin…

Afterwards, we walked around town, shopped, ate a late lunch, and returned back to the hotel to get ready for our press meet and greet. The whole group of Life In A Day contributors boarded a bus to the Rich Haines Gallery on Main Street where the press event was taking place. Once inside, we met up with our new friends from YouTube and Scott Free.

Two incredibly charming people, Liza Marshall, producer of Life In A Day and Ian Thomson, PR Consultant to Scott Free…

Ian was absolutely wonderful to Bobby!

Bob and Joe Walker, editor for Life In A Day…

Liza and Bob…

It was wonderful seeing familiar faces because we were a wee bit nervous at the thought of talking to the press! And wouldn’t you know it, our first interview of the evening was with ABC World News. I thought I could very possibly throw up.

Once it was our turn, we got situated on the couch, took a few deep breaths, and waited for our first question…

He asked for our names. Whew, that was easy.

Next question? I don’t remember what the question was but it really didn’t matter because Bobby took the mike. Our little boy took the microphone and answered the question! Well, after that beginning, the rest of the interview was a breeze. It actually turned out to be a lot fun.

We were very lucky in that the three of us traveled as one throughout the week of interviews. We had each other to lean on and to help answer or finish a question if the other got stuck or couldn’t find the right words. We were a good team. We are a good team.

With that interview behind us, we were feeling pretty good. Next up was a few pictures for Getty images…

And then an interview with…

Later that evening, Bobby left us in the dust and decided to start interviewing on his own…

Before we knew it, our very first press event was over and it was time to return to our hotel. But before retiring to our room, we decided a nightcap was in order to celebrate an absolutely enchanting day!

Then it was time for bed…

dreaming of what Day 3 would bring…

One Response to “Sundance…Day Two!”

Bobby will need his own Facebook page so all of his fans can keep in touch! I missed part of the end of the movie–maybe my Internet connection wasn’t fast enough to keep up. I only saw you in 2 segments so I think I missed a 3rd segment you were in. You’ll have to tell me what I missed but I did see the entire question and answer portion afterwards. You were all pros!
